Procurement Clerk Jobs

A procurement clerk documents the request for materials, keeps an account of purchases and supplies, prepares purchase orders and performs all the administrative work related to ordering of goods and supplies. A procurement clerk should ensure that the material purchased arrives on schedule and meets the purchase specifications. In order to make a request for purchase, a procurement clerk should verify whether there are any of the requested products left in inventory. A procurement clerk prepares the invitation to bid forms for suppliers and mails it to them or meets them in person in order to check on prices and specifications. A procurement clerk prepares a spreadsheet with the details of all the suppliers along with the prices for the final decision and solves queries for suppliers. A procurement clerk has to verify the purchase order on its arrival and also the bills and invoices in order make arrangements for payment.

Most of the procurement clerks are trained on the job itself under the supervision of the purchase manager. However a procurement clerk should possess a bachelor's degree or a high school diploma and be a computer literate. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software may be required.
