Position Purpose:

This position will lead and develop procurement professionals who are responsible for ensuring fair market pricing, and supplier performance.  In addition, this position will be responsible for understanding the short and long term strategies for its respective business partners and using that information to ensure development of sourcing strategies and to oversee the implementation of those strategies in an enterprise-wide format and process  

Essential Job Functions: The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Ensure client business unit needs / requirements are met.  Manage resources effectively to support, develop and execute initiatives that reduce cost, manage risk and support improved efficiencies. Oversee the implementation and management of organized functional responsibilities throughout the team including the establishment of clear lines of accountability and responsibility.

Direct the development of reporting Indirect Procurement department budget and business plan to ensure alignment with overall PETCO strategies and operational goals.

Travel to domestic and international meetings, conferences, etc. to meet with vendors, associates, customers, investors and other stakeholders.

Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with an emphasis on the Company's interests.

Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes and through the work of subordinates.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Directly manage team comprised primarily of high level indirect procurement/sourcing partners. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring/coaching, providing functional guidance, assignment delegation and follow-through, and, partnering with Human Resources, discipline up to and including termination. 

Work Environment:

The majority of duties will be performed while seated indoors in an office environment with little or no exposure to hazards.  Minimal field travel required by airplane or automobile.','!*!Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or another finance/business related field of study required, with a MBA preferred, and 10 years professional experience including 5 years progressively responsible managerial leadership experience in purchasing, strategic alliance development and competitive cost/price analysis that has resulted in a deep functional expertise within the indirect procurement arena. A well developed ability in creating winning customer strategies; understanding the system; achieving greater results; accepting and building accountability; using judgment and common sense; systemic thinking; building organizational capability and directing the organization is a must. Six Sigma training or Lean training/experience preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience can be substituted for a degree. In addition, in depth and thorough knowledge and abilities in the following are required:

Commodity expertise

Research and analysis; financial analysis; forecasting

Strategic sourcing; TCO/design-to-cost

Value-based decision analysis

Proven in depth ability to develop and execute operational planning, visioning and decision making

Demonstrated ability to lead a team and to influence and persuade internal and external contacts

Excellent leadership skills in sourcing and the procurement of indirect goods and services

Demonstrated ability to utilize and project a strong sense of internal and external customer service seeking to meet or exceed customer expectations

Proven expertise in contract negotiation/management

Demonstrated strength in partnership skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively across multi-functional teams and with vendors/suppliers with finesse. 

Well developed strength in technical business acumen including finance and logistics, and judgment necessary for proper management of the analytics and metrics required to achieve sourcing initiatives

Demonstrated excellent ability to successfully manage multiple responsibilities/projects at one time with the talent to shift team of focus from one task to another with minimal challenge.

Demonstrated excellent ability to accomplish goals through partnerships built on mutual trust, fairness, integrity and honesty

Proven abilities in continuous process design and improvement

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Proven track record as a creative change agent that is energized by complexities of implementing cross-company change

Ability to utilize advanced computer skills required including MS Office Suite and the ability to learn and utilize internal applications.
