Market Research and Advisory Associate Director will serve as a key strategic partner to category leaders and use their deep expertise in the commercialization of drugs, the commercial market, and commercial ecosystem to help enable business priorities and category requirements through best-in-class market research, advisory and insights.

Commercial Services comprises the monetization of products, including: Business Insights (data & analytics); Commercial Distribution; Customer Engagement; and Marketing Services.

This role will serve as a thought partner and sounding board to category leaders, acting as a key source of innovation, ultimately leading to competitive differentiation for the business. This role is expected to identify and manage a portfolio of external research and advisory providers to meet the unique needs for the functional requirements.

Additionally, the Market Research and Advisory Associate Director will serve as the single point-of-contact for the function, cross-functional capability and process teams, and external research and advisory providers. This role will also work on continuous improvement for the market research and advisory capability and provide category teams with additional support on market research and advisory-related activities, as needed.

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Partnering :

Partners with category leaders in the Procurement function to align market research and advisory needs to business priorities, and uses their deep functional expertise to drive research analysis and advisory of the supply market

Brings outside-in innovation to category leaders and the business, providing the business and function with a competitive advantage

Manages relationships with external research and advisory providers

Gains visibility into the annual market research and advisory demand for the function

Acts as a single point-of-contact for the function, the cross-functional capability and process teams, and the external research and advisory providers

Supports with escalations related to the function

Portfolio Management:

Conducts and/or oversees supply market research, managing market research and advisory needs for the function, including consultations and prioritization

Determines the appropriate external research and advisory provider for market research and advisory requests from the function and meets with the provider to validate requests

Continuously scans market to identify and refine roster of external research and advisory providers and locate relevant data sources

Manages a large book of work across multiple individuals, teams, and geographies. Must be able to bring organization and transparency to a fast-paced environment

Capability Delivery :

Analyzes forecasted data for the purposes of planning procurement, sourcing, and supply strategies

Provides forecasted data of future organization buying requirements to suppliers

Develops and maintains market awareness through merchandise shows, trade periodicals, and other resources, in an effort to support securing new products and pricing information; summarizes key findings that are shared with category teams

Pressure tests market research and advisory outputs from external research and advisory providers for company-specific insights, as needed

Proactively shares new insights with category leaders on current and future market conditions (push model)

Evolves the framework of Procurement’s market research and advisory capability (continuous improvement, new ways of working, process improvements, etc.)

Provides frameworks, trainings, and advisory support on market research and advisory-related activities (e.g., cost modeling, benchmarking, category profiling, supplier profiling), as needed

Manages functional-specific content

Prepares periodic reports of market research and advisory activities within the function

Provides summaries of relevant content from preferred suppliers and indicates contact information for category team to follow up on

Connects BMS and key suppliers’ strategies with industry trends to identify opportunities

Develops/identifies cross-industry benchmarking groups related to categories/topics of interest

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree (Supply Chain or related business field)

Minimum of 8-10 years of business experience or relevant experience

Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant market research analysis and advisory experience, insight generation, and reporting

Extensive industry and functional expertise

Deep understanding of Commercialization (business view)

A focus on US Commercial ecosystem experience

Experience leading and participating on cross-functional and/or global teams

Internal stakeholder management, data/information management, category management, process redesign and continuous improvement expertise, project management, and performance measurement skills

Procurement process knowledge, contract management, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier analysis, supplier diversity, supplier management, technology utilization, strategic planning, and integrated supply chain experience

Strong oral, written communication and customer service skills

Strong presentation and communication skills including storytelling through PowerPoint

Ability to operate as a Strategic Advisor: demonstrated ability to partner, manage, and influence

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, inclusive of pivot tables

Preferred Qualifications:

M.S./M.B.A.; Masters in Library Science

Professional certifications (e.g., CPM, CPIM)

4 years Pharmaceutical Procurement experience

Experience working in a market research and advisory capacity

Membership in Professional Associations, e.g., ISM

Demonstrated success working in a virtual team environment
