May lead and be responsible for direct reports.Procurement Leadership:\u00a0\u00a0Leads development, recommendation\/presentation, and implementation leadership of category sourcing strategies and ensures alignment, compliance and delivery of business requirements\/needs.Collaborates with Supplier Relationship Managers to support their needs from a strategic sourcing perspective.Market Knowledge and Insight: Uses thorough market knowledge and data analysis to gain critical insights that drive the selection of Sourcing Strategies and continuous improvement activities.\u00a0Project Management:Leads strategic sourcing projects (using an established sourcing management process) to establish sources of supply via market intelligence gathering and analysis, competitive sourcing events (Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Proposal\/Quotation (RFP\/RFQs)), costs analyses, strategic analyses, due diligence\/compliance assessments, and contract negotiations.Leads cross-functional sourcing teams (key manufacturing support functions) to execute sourcing projects.Proactive Cost Management: Leads development, negotiation, and implementation of cost savings projects.Stakeholder Engagement\/Management: Leads engagement with the business stakeholders (at same organizational level or one to two levels above and across manufacturing support functions such Supply Chain Management, Quality Assurance, Technology, Environmental Health and Safety, Finance, Regulatory Affairs, Legal) across the world in support of strategic sourcing and relationship management.Contract Negotiation and Management: Responsible to create detailed pre-negotiation plans, to lead and participate any prolonged negotiation sessions with suppliers and to conduct post negotiation debriefs and follow-through plans.QualificationsEducation Minimum Requirement: Undergraduate degree (Bachelor\u2019s Degree or equivalent) preferably in Engineering, Science, or Business fieldsRequired Experience and Skills**: At least five (5) years of work experience in strategic sourcing, contract negotiations and executionExperience working with suppliers and customers across the world (\u201cglobal\u201d experience) in the pharmaceutical industryExcellent English speaking and writing skillsDemonstrated ability to work well with people from many different disciplines.Project management experience specifically related to strategic sourcing projectsHigh degree of flexibility and adaptability to deal with ambiguous and dynamic situationExperience managing multiple simultaneous and complex projects requiring frequent communication, organizing\/time management and problem solving skills.Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, negotiation, analytical, and project management skills.Demonstrated strong leadership, problem solving, and team building skills\/experience and sensitivity to diverse culturesAbility to work independently with minimal coachingYour role at Merck is integral to helping the world meet new breakthroughs that affect generations to come, and we\u2019re counting on your skills and inventiveness to help make meaningful contributions to global medical advancement.
